GeoNames
--------
Place-name data (the offline geocoder's `lib/ingest/data/places.bin.gz`,
used by `lib/ingest/geo.ts`, and the worldwide named-peaks index
`lib/mapdata/peaks.bin.gz`, built by `scripts/build-peaks.ts` and read by
`lib/ingest/peaks.ts`) is derived from the GeoNames geographical database
(https://www.geonames.org/), licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution
4.0 licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/):

  Place names from GeoNames.org, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0
  licence.

HydroSHEDS
----------
River and lake data (`lib/mapdata/hydro-world.json.gz`, built by
`scripts/build-hydro.ts` from HydroSHEDS' HydroRIVERS and HydroLAKES
products, read by `lib/basemap.ts`) is licensed under a Creative Commons
Attribution 4.0 licence. The codebase's own attribution string
(`scripts/build-hydro.ts`), used verbatim here:

  Rivers and lakes from HydroSHEDS (Lehner & Grill 2013; Messager et al.
  2016), hydrosheds.org, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0
  licence.

OpenStreetMap
-------------
The worldwide parks layer (`lib/mapdata/parks-world.json.gz`, built by
`scripts/build-parks.ts` from Overpass queries against OpenStreetMap data,
read by `lib/basemap.ts`) contains information from OpenStreetMap, made
available at openstreetmap.org under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0
(https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1.0/) — the codebase's own
attribution string (`scripts/build-parks.ts`). Because this file
redistributes a static extract of the database rather than only querying it
live, that file — `lib/mapdata/parks-world.json.gz` and any data drawn from
it — is itself available under ODbL 1.0, not under the Apache-2.0 licence
that covers the rest of this repository's source.

The hosted edition's printed photobooks carry their own, longer versions of
these three credits (`paid/photobook/lib/photobook/strings.ts`); that file
is not part of this open repository.

Natural Earth
-------------
The base map (borders, water, terrain and the "famous peaks" layer in
`lib/mapdata/basemap.json.gz`, built by `scripts/build-mapdata.mjs` and read
by `lib/basemap.ts`) is built from Natural Earth (https://www.naturalearthdata.com/),
which is in the public domain. No attribution is legally required; Natural
Earth's own request is a courtesy credit of "Made with Natural Earth."

importers/
----------
Everything under `importers/` is licensed separately and more permissively,
under the MIT License — see `importers/LICENSE`. Nothing in this NOTICE or
in LICENSE restricts that directory.
